CNN —Hundreds of Israeli settlers surrounded Palestinian villages and attacked residents across the occupied West Bank, eyewitnesses told CNN, after an Israeli boy who had gone missing from a settlement was found dead. RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — The border crossing between Egypt and Gaza opened on Saturday to let desperately needed aid flow to Palestinians running short of food, medicine and water in the territory that is under an Israeli siege. More than 200 trucks carrying roughly 3,000 tons of aid, which had been positioned near the crossing for days, began heading into Gaza. Many in Gaza, reduced to eating one meal a day and without enough water to drink, are waiting desperately for the aid. Hundreds of foreign passport holders also waited to cross from Gaza to Egypt to escape the conflict. Israel said Friday it does not plan to take long-term control over the tiny territory, home to some 2.3 million Palestinians.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told troops that they would soon see Gaza “from within,” during a tour of the country’s border with the Palestinian enclave on Thursday. “You now see Gaza from afar. Soon you will see it from within. Israel has called up more than 360,000 reservists since it was attacked by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 and has been conducting airstrikes on Gaza in the days since. The moves are part of an expected ground operation in the Palestinian enclave that experts say could last many months as Israel tries to expel Hamas militants who rule the territory.

Jerusalem/London CNN —Three Israeli soldiers and an Egyptian policeman have been killed in a rare border crossing incident. They say the Egyptian policeman shot two Israeli border guards – and that when Israeli back-up arrived later, a firefight ensued that killed both the policeman and a third Israeli. The first two IDF soldiers killed were discovered dead by their lieutenant when they did not answer their radio, according to the spokesman. CNN —Iran smuggled weapons and military equipment into Syria using humanitarian aid shipments as a cover following a devastating earthquake there in February, two sources familiar with US intelligence and an Israeli defense official told CNN. Intelligence officials believe the weapons were destined for Iranian proxy groups in Syria, who have repeatedly attacked US military personnel stationed there as part of the anti-ISIS coalition. “The humanitarian assistance of Iran to Syria was used as an umbrella of moving weapons capabilities into the region,” the Israeli defense official said. Reuters earlier reported that regional and western officials believed Iran was smuggling the weapons under the guise of earthquake relief. Foreign aid poured into Syria and Turkey after February’s earthquake, which killed more than 50,000 people.
